I am very happy with this purchase. I bought two of them and they work great. I don't even have to connect the second USB cord to get the disc running on my 17" macbook pro.
and drove a car tire over it and it still kept on working. He's very hard on everything he touches. I bought this for my teenage son. It did better than all other similar products. This seemed very durable. We saw a review on the Popular Mechanics website and they dropped it from above 15 ft. That sold me. We've only used it for a brief time, but I felt OK about having my son take it on a two week road trip where it hit the floor a couple of times with no problems.
I just attached this drive to my 10 in Acer - recognized it right away running Windows XP - I copied about 10 gigs of image and music files with no problem - in about 10 minutes. I kept it attached with the laptop running for 3 hours - it did not get hot like others have mentioned - hardly even warm - not sure if leaving it attached would result in a hot to handle item - but I think that at least for a few hours heat will be no problem.It was formatted in NTSF out of the box - I did not have to do anything so I am not sure why others did. If it holds up, and I think it will since I do not plan to use it on a daily basis, then this was a nice buy
I purchased this drive as a place to backup my hard drive as well as storing files that I don't necessarily want taking up significant space. This drive has been ideal for those tasks. It's as simple to use as a thumb drive and has a ton of space for the price. This was an impulse buy and I am very glad I went with the impulse.
As far as USB hard drives go, this is a good choice. It's fast, it's pretty, and it's not too big. Reliability will probably be good, but I've only had it for a month, so I can't say much yet. If it dies unexpectedly I'll come back and update my review.
